Elden Ring, the next game from FromSoftware, has always been highly anticipated – but it’s reached cult status recently, due to the Japanese developer’s silence about it. Just what is the status of this project? And why is it taking so long to return to the public eye? Comments from various journalists have raised hopes that a re-reveal is near.
First, it’s the turn of GamesBeat scribe turned video game crystal ball gazer Jeff Grubb: he indicated on a podcast that the game may be shown by the end of March. However, he did add the infamous industry insider disclaimer: “I know enough to be confident, but if it were to slip into April I would apologise but I will continue to say you are not gonna wait long.”
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has since echoed Grubb’s comments on Twitter: “I know lots of people are desperate for Elden Ring news. I don't know much about it, except that it's been delayed a bunch. But there is strong evidence floating around that the game will be shown relatively soon. It's not going to pull a Winds of Winter. Elden Ring has pages.”
So, a re-reveal is imminent, then. Both of these sources are reliable, and while plans can obviously change behind-the-scenes, it sounds like some kind of update is almost certainly in the immediate pipeline. We’ll take that for now, as we’re desperate to learn more about this project – hopefully it’s not too far away.

As ready as I am for another Fromventure I also refuse to believe Elden Ring exists until I have it in my arms and it is attempting to kick me in the gnads!
No shade toward these guys at all, respect their work immensely but I'll believe it when I see it.
Can't wait for this even though I know nothing about the game lol.
Rember when Jeff Grubb said Xbox Live Gold was going free lol
With so much hype despite the game not even being tangible, the game’s bound to be a masterpiece! Right?
Next State of Play then!
@Futureshark More like Xbox’s supposed event at the end of March. Microsoft has the marketing deal.
Cant wait i have high hopes for this game
I wasn’t even aware Elden Ring was a thing until about 6 weeks ago. I’m already impatient for news. Almost finished DS2 which is the last From Soulsborne game I haven’t completed.
My most anticipated game :3
I love FromSoftware's games, but I seriously have a bad feeling about Elden Ring, my gamer intuition is telling me it's going to disappoint, I really hope I'm wrong.
Take your time, make it right.
@SterlingEyes finished Demon's Souls Remake today, which previously was the only Soulsborne game i haven't finished. Now im all good and ready for the final From torture.
its like a wheel barrow its in front of you 😂
There have also been rumors about Microsoft getting ready for a presentation to talk about the future of Bethesda soon. Imagine a clash between the two. It could be fun..
With how they handled Sekiro, I’m not sure I have the confidence in From Soft that I used to.
I’ll just have to wait and see.

Over on 'the other' site there are rumours of this being a MS exclusive. Are there any truths to this. On one hand the selfish in me would think it may mean GPU inclusion, the other would rather play it on PS5 with the DualSense. Hopefully this won't be exclusive though.
I know I'm in the minority for saying this, but I still can't wrap my head around this "hype" for FromSoft games. I tried going in with an open mind but I simply can't enjoy their clunky, slow, "challenging" combat. If they had a strong narrative story, maybe I could overlook it but nope. The story is literally non existent from a storytelling perspective.
Before I get those "get gud" replies, can someone please explain why people love them so much lol?
Nah I'm done with rumors cause every single one has been completely wrong. I hate it when devs announce a game this early, it is the dumbest *****.
@Divergent95 Cause you don't understand that the story is in the item descriptions and the visuals themselves. It's not going to spoon feed you the story, you have to look for it yourself. Play Bloodborne or even DS3, they have fast and more aggressive combat.
@Divergent95 - I like Demon Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne & Sekiro for there challenging nature and heart-pounding boss fights, first time playing these games can be so stressful and in some ways scary, knowing their might be a boss just up ahead, or a dangerous enemy lurking around the next corner.
I remember beating the hardest boss in Bloodborne on my very first attempt, my heart was racing so fast, I truly thought I was having a heart attack, but that feeling of besting a difficult boss is truly gratifying, and not something found in a lot of games these days.
@Nepp67 is correct, there is a story, but it's not a surface-level story, you really have to piece it together yourself through items, dialogue and through the environment itself, the story is actually very interesting if you're willing to uncover and piece it all together.
@StonyKL doubtful.... they already stated that it was coming to PS4, Xbox, and PC since the very beginning.... changing it right now would just cause a big backlash for the developer and publisher. FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment do not want that to become a thing right now.
@Divergent95 Hey not everyone’s going to like every game made so it’s cool! Which Fromsoft games have you played or tried out? You’re right DeS-DS2 certainly places more emphasis on slow, methodical combat where it’s mainly about drawing enemies out from groups and learning their attack patterns. Although Bloodborne & DS3 are considerably more fast paced and have omni-directional rolling so things feel less clunky
In terms of story, they do take a more unconventional approach where there’s almost no cutscenes/music by design and lore is exploratory versus expository and it’s certainly debatable whether this enhances the experience or not (kinda like the film as a form of art or entertainment debate). I can’t speak for others but I find Dark Souls 1 to be a masterclass in world design and this is the main factor that drew me into the world...then once I beat my first playthrough it became almost therapeutic in the sense that while it’s just you, alone wandering around a seemingly desolate world I knew I could handle any challenge the game threw my way.
@Divergent95 First off, it's okay to not like every single mainstream game. I wouldn't say you are in a minority. Heck, if you look at the Steam stats for achievements, you will see that only about 25% of people actually complete the game. It's not for everybody.
Second, the story in Dark Souls purposefully got put in the background, due in part to the fact that it was released when narrative heavy games with LOTS of handholding were ever-present. To make their game stand out, From did the opposite of what every big, AAA game was doing at the time. No hand holding, next to no story at all, in fact they hide it in item descriptions.
For me, it's perfect. The LAST thing I enjoy in a game is a freaking popup telling me how to do something, especially if it's something that I already know how to do. I also greatly dislike the way most games tell their stories, I'm not interested in such shallow experiences.
Dark Souls made me feel like I was playing Castlevania 2 again. For me, that was all I needed. An obtuse game, set in a strange world with strange rules, that trusts the player to find things on their own and make their own mistakes as they explore.
It's certainly not a masterclass in design, it has TONS of flaws, from enemy AI and a world that just feels like it was built half-hazardly on top of itself. But it does SO MUCH right, in terms of gameplay, mechanics, design philosophy, etc.
Two cents for ya!

You hear that guys, news any day now.
give us something FROMSOFTWARE already.!!
As someone who picked up FromSoftware's games for the first time recently, I'm pretty interested in hearing more about this one. I greatly enjoyed Sekiro and Dark Souls was pretty good.
I absolutely love that quote from Jason Schreier.
“I don’t know anymore than anyone else about this but here’s a quote making it seem like I do”
It's not even been 2 years since Sekiro, so I'm not starving just yet. It was probably just announced too early.
@BloodNinja What didn’t you like about Sekiro?
I wanted more RPG elements and a larger variety of combat choices. Had some awesome world building and monster design though, as always.
Bloodborne is still the GOAT
@Ear_wiG What Sekiro did right:
world
exploration
zip line
graphics
stealth
What it did wrong:
CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG Riposte.
Repeat.
Would have been nice if it focused more on stealth.
@BloodNinja I can agree that it should've focused more on stealth cause admittedly it's probably the weakest aspect of the game along with just the sword combat. As much as I love it, I kind of realized that it's not made for fighting multiple enemies, it's made for one on one.
Oh sekiro....aaagghh that poo flinging gorilla still is the stuff of nightmares..my personal nemesis...
Elden Ring isn't real
@LiamCroft
Looks like maybe not the case after all!
https://twitter.com/aarongreenberg/status/1366127846771494913
And the hollowing continues.
@Tchunga OOOOOH?!
@BloodNinja Yep combat was just one note, or as you say, “CLANG”, and that was the main problem. Excited for them to get back to making games with multiple build options.
As much as the level design and gameplay will be utterly faultless I do hope that whatever engine they're using gets a much needed shot in the arm; I can't help but think they're always a little behind, fidelity wise. Especially after the DS remake blew me away!
@Divergent95 If you can't get into the Souls games that's totally understandable. While many people truly do love the games, there are just as many who love them because other people love them, not necessarily because they actually do. FromSoftware enjoyed a significant boost in popularity as a result of the PS3 allowing people to download Japanese games when those games would have previously been unavailable in the West. It allowed gamers in the US and Europe to play a game that the gaming community was advertising as hardcore and created the whole get good mentality. In truth, the games were good, but they were not as people believed them to be. I would say they are slightly above average for challenge, but there have always been games that are far more difficult than any of these. They were just most difficult than other action RPGs being put out at that time. This article does a good job of explaining the background on Souls popularity:

@Ear_wiG I was super torn because the rest of the game does so much so well, but the combat is terrible.
@BloodNinja I never finished it, which is so rare for me with From games. Been thinking of going back in a PS5; maybe 60fps will improve the combat 🤷🏻♂️
@Ear_wiG Same! I felt like after I saw the giant snake everything else after felt a little lack luster. First From game I haven’t finished, either.
